Education Programs in Indonesia and the U.S.

Educational outreach is an integral part of the Bandung Philharmonic’s enterprise. Its presence in the community is far-reaching through coachings, school visits, and concerts. Students from Indonesia (Bandung and Jakarta) and the U.S. (Chicago, Boston, and New York) have connected in pen pal relationships with each other, building bonds across the countries. 

During the orchestra’s short history, nearly 3,000 young people and their families have experienced music in their schools or by attending special children’s concerts in Indonesia and the United States. The orchestra has performed as a flash mob and in run-out concerts in public spaces to both raise awareness around the orchestra and reach out to the community. 

Reaching beyond the concert hall, the orchestra has helped rural communities start libraries, drawn attention to women’s shelters, and advised architects on the need to include arts districts in their communities.
