CELEBRATING GLOBAL DIVERSITY
Uniting Musical Traditions: Indonesia and the West
The Bandung Philharmonic and its Foundation are a feel-good story about building community across cultures and religions through the beauty and power of music-making.
Founding a Model for Peace: the Bandung Philharmonic
“Collaboration is the key to the future,” believes Executive Director of the Bandung Philharmonic, Airin Efferin. She and her team of Indonesian musicians, along with Chicagoans Robert Nordling and Michael Hall, have brought together the talent and traditions of their cultures to create an extraordinary ensemble whose mission includes some lofty goals: to “increase [musical] appreciation so that empathy for universal humanity grows” and to celebrate “global diversity.” As many as 70 musicians from all economic walks of life, ethnicities, and religious backgrounds arrive in Bandung to share their talents and create something beautiful.
